Recently, Samsung announced that it will dispose of its 7-generation TFT-LCD liquid crystal production line equipment by the end of 2016. According to Digitimes Research, Chinese LCD module maker Truly Semiconductors is expected to press panel makers BOE and Huaxing Power (CSOT) to become the final buyer.
Samsung said it plans to shift its focus to large-size LCD panels for small and medium-size AMOLED panels and high-end applications, and will stop its L7-1 production line in South Korea and sell related equipment to make way for the 6th generation AMOLED production line. The new production line is expected to start operation in the first half of 2018.
BOE and China Star Optoelectronics or intends to take over the 7th generation line equipment, each of its supply of about 20% of Samsung TV panels. However, Truly Semiconductor has taken over Samsung's 4.5 generation AMOLED plant and 5th generation amorphous silicon (a-Si) liquid crystal production line, and the manufacture of LCD panels for automotive displays, so the 7th generation line equipment is more advantageous.
