Company News >> Transportation: Small and medium-sized OLED display new blue sea 4th,Sep,2018
Earlier this year, Samsung added the latest flexible transparent OLED display to the prototype of the new automotive display for instrument panels and other components.
Later, it was reported that LGD and Benz, Volkswagen, Toyota, and GM signed an OLED supply agreement. Mercedes-Benz will be the first to adopt LGD's flexible OLED display in some E-class models launched in the first half of 2020.
A few days ago, Audi announced that it will install a 7-inch OLED virtual rearview mirror (with an external camera) for the new e-tron EV crossover concept car, replacing the traditional rearview mirror.
The attention of OLED display in the automotive industry is quietly ignited. Although the wave of subversion has not yet started, the industry giants are eager to explain the future development potential of this field.
For most cars, there are usually two panels, one for the central information display and one for the rear seat entertainment display. Some high-end models are also equipped with a head-up display.
Since 2017, the demand for display panels for electronic rearview mirrors has been expanding due to the elimination of production bans for rearview mirrors in the United States, Europe, Japan and South Korea. Compared to TFT-LCDs, OLED panels have faster response times and lower power consumption, and have flexible display capabilities, making them ideal for automotive applications.
In 2018, the automotive market began to adopt OLED displays. It is predicted that the automotive display market is expected to achieve rapid growth, with a compound annual growth rate of 17% between 2017 and 2022. The compound annual growth rate of automotive OLED displays will reach 497% between 2018 and 2022. In 2022, the total value of the automotive display market will reach 25 billion US dollars, of which OLED will occupy about 20%, about 5 billion US dollars.
In addition to the automotive field, in the aviation display, OLED has also begun to show its strength.
In June of this year, Emirates Airlines launched a new first class cabin, which uses virtual OLED windows. This month, Aura, an American airline, also used OLED screens on high-end models, and also made OLED screens a skylight for simulating starry sky effects.
Traffic information shows that the application of OLED technology has opened a new door, especially for small and medium-sized OLED displays, it can be described as a new blue ocean.
