Company News >> Samsung, LG made a big move OLED screen to replace LCD? 25th,March,2019
In the field of OLED display, Samsung and LG are the leading giants. Not only is it technically faster, but it is also actively strategically deployed in a highly competitive market.

According to South Korean media reports, Samsung Display plans to sell all the equipment of the fifth-generation LCD panel production line in Cheonan, South Korea, for the development and production of OLED. In fact, Samsung Display has closed the LCD panel production line earlier. The third generation line was closed in 2011 and the fourth generation line was closed in 2013.

In this regard, some people commented that Samsung Display is forced to reduce the price competitive advantage. In recent years, with the rise of domestic BOE and other manufacturers, the price advantage of Samsung Display in the LCD market has declined. As a result, Samsung Display needs a new direction to maintain its dominance in the panel market. OLEDs are superior to traditional LCDs in terms of display quality, power consumption, and durability. At the same time, equipment manufacturers such as Apple are increasingly demanding OLED panels. Therefore, Samsung Display's emphasis on OLED is also a reasonable thing.

On the other hand, LG Display's loyal supporter LG Display is also following the pace of Samsung Display. According to reports, LG Display plans to invest 4.2 billion US dollars to build a new OLED factory in the Paju area of South Korea to expand its business capabilities. It is expected that LG's new plant will be put into production as soon as possible in 2017.

In response, there are rumors that the OLED screen produced by the new factory will be used in Apple products. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the Apple Watch uses OLED, the LCD display used by other Apple devices. Of course, this rumor may stem from the earlier cooperation between LG and Apple. It is reported that Apple's Apple Watch's exclusive OLED supplier is LG Display.

Admittedly, replacing the LCD with an OLED screen is only a matter of time. Although the manufacturing cost of OLED is currently too high, as the level of technology increases, the price difference with LCD will gradually decrease, and the advantages of OLED will become more and more obvious.
